Dear All
Let it never be said that Annual General Meetings, by their very nature are full of stuffy, boring nonsense.
Thanks to Christina and Beryl keeping us on the (relatively) straight and narrow tonight, our meeting was just official enough to pass for an AGM,topical enough to produce a number of interesting points and sufficiently short enough to ensure that we had plently of time to enjoy the coffee, biscuits with fellow Birmingham International Speakers Club (BISC)-ers over the break. In addition to all this, from the 1st August, we have a new committee !
The lucky choosen (or bamboozled) people who will sit on the Birmingham International Speakers Club (BISC) board for 2010/2011 are :
Lucy Dinsdale : President
Uvalyn Hayles : President Elect
Steven Hopkins: Secretary
Carole Manship: Treasurer
Beryl Brown : Vice-President (Accreditation)
Allan Venables: Vice President (Membership) & Club Liaison Officer
Michael Chan : Website Officer
With the relatively non-stuffy stuff over, we heard from Mercedes on her recent experience at the GB Region conference when she represented Birmingham International Speakers Club (BISC) and Anglia Council in the speech contest. Mercedes recounted her experience with an infectious enthusiasm which she brings to very meeting and was keen to emphasise how much she learnt whilst spending the day with our Powertalk colleagues in Newcastle.
We were delighted to welcome former president Peter Spalton back to the club as our guest workshop presenter for the evening. Never one to shy away from controversey, Peter proceeded to split us into single sex teams and we played the game "Who killed the Baroness?". It is fair to say that it could have easily been given several other titles based on the fact that it brought to the forefront how differently men and women think ! It was fab to see Peter back with us at the Plough and Harrow. For more information on his varied work interests, including his writing, visit Peter Spalton
The next Birmingham International Speaker Club (BISC) meeting is on 14th July at 7.30pm at the Plough and Harrow when the theme will be ""Life is a Soap Opera" with speeches from several members and a workshop on using visual aids by Allan Venables.
Hope to see you then !
Best wishes
Lucy Dinsdale
